Morcote is the most beautiful village in Switzerland
One of the loveliest holiday destinations in the whole region of Ticino is the picturesque town of Morcote, which lies 12 km from Lugano at the southern tip of a narrow tongue of land, directly on the Lake Lugano.
In the year 2016, Morcote was voted by the readers of the Schweizer Illustrierte, L’illustré and il caffè to the most beautiful city in Switzerland.
It’s the unique position, the mild climate, the subtropical vegetation, the arcades and the narrow lanes all go to make this former fishing village special. The shops invite you to browse, the winding little alleys and the good restaurants encourage the visitor to venture on a tour of discovery.
Known and worth seeing is the church of Santa Maria del Sasso as well as the famous cemetery, from which you have a splendid view over the Lake of Lugano.
